Outreach
Aid to Needy Families at Christmas
During the Christmas season, our parishioners donate funds and gifts to help several financially struggling families. Some of the families are identified from the St. Matthew's / San Mateo parish confidentially. Two of the families are usually clients referred by The Abilities Network, a private non-profit in Silver Spring working with disabled families. Wrapping the donated gifts is a joyous part of our Christmas party every year.
Special Collections and Projects
From time to time, we have special collections for charitable causes such as Episcopal Relief & Development and United Thank Offering.
Crop Walk
CROP Hunger Walks are organized by the Church World Service and help to provide food and water, as well as resources that empower people to meet their own needs. From seeds and tools to wells and water systems, the key is people working together to identify their own development priorities, their strengths and their needs - something CWS has learned through 70 years of working in partnership around the world. We participate in the Hyattsville CROP Hunger Walk every year on the first Sunday in May.
FOOD ASSISTANCE TO THOSE IN NEED
As needed, special collections are taken to fund food distribution to families in need. During the Covid-19 pandemic, parishioners have packed and distributed groceries every other week.
